Hey everyone:) I'm in a dispute with a local merchant who owns a kickboxing gym and I was hoping for some advice on the situation. Tell me if I am being unreasonable or your opinion on the ethics of the situation. I was a member of this gym and thought that the billing cycle started on the 5th of each month. I emailed them on the 5th (I was backpacking around Central America and should have emailed them sooner, but internet and time were scarce) and asked them to cancel billing and membership. She responded that the charge had been completed on the 4th, and that I was out of luck. I have been emailing her back and forth, requesting a refund ($85). I offered to pay the pro-rated sum of one day's value. Even though I missed the actual date of payment, should I have to pay the entire month against my will? Should I suck it up and remember the payment date next time? I am thinking about disputing the charge, and sending a complaint to the owner of her affiliate. Legal tips appreciated.
