![]() Newborn Feeding/Burping Trouble? Just brought home our 7lb 6oz baby girl Grace, she was born monday Oct. 27th. Shes being bottle fed. Shes totally healthy, and an excellent child. My wife and I are just extremely worried about her eating and feeding habits. everyone(including hospital) is telling us to keep her on a every 2-3 hour feeding routine, with feeding her atleast an ounce each time, and gradually she'll begin to take more. weve been on that routine, but most of the times shes just been taking 1/2 - 3/4 of an ounce, and fighting and refusing to take more. when trying to burp her, its nearly impossible. even the nurses at hospital had a hard time. maybe everythings fine this early, but we just dont want our angel to get dehydrated, and or gassy pains. any suggestions? p.s. she cant breastfeed due to the fact the mother had a breast reduction a few years back and therefore medically her doctor said she cant This is frustrating, I have been there with many patients. Try keeping her on a regular schedule of simethicone gas drops, this will help prevent gas pains before they start. Definately try to work up her hunger by changing her and playing with her for a few minutes before you try to feed her, this will also allow her to fully wake up. Make sure her formula is nice and warm, some babies will refuse formula that is not at their preferred temperature. allow her to suck a pacifier for 30 sec before offering her bottle to get her suck/swallow reflex going and to allow her to prepare to eat. If she still will not eat for you try using a new nipple, a different shape can help sometimes as well as a diff texture. Last try different burping methods, bouncing her on your knee while holding her facing down can help the hardest burps come out. Good luck and make sure to call your pediatrician if she does not increase her feeding volume in the next week. |
