There is a lunar eclipse visible from Australia and New Zealand on 28 August. A lunar eclipse is when the moon goes into the shadow of the earth. It is the only time when it is easy to see the earths shadow.
As it is the first decent lunar eclipse seen for quite a while, the times will be in the newspaper (In New Zealand it starts about 7.00, mid eclipse at 10.30 and finishes about 1.00 am the following day)
A Solar eclipse is when the moon goes between the earth and the sun. If you are standing where the moons shadow touches the earth you will see a solar eclipse.
Simply a lunar eclipse is seen at night and a solar eclipse during the day.
