Why doesn't the American Government pay up our trillion dollar deficit with gold.?
We owe a tremendous amount of money.So the government says anyway.
Well we have places like Fort Knox and others, that hold a large count of gold bars.Why doesn't the American Government just simply pay off the national debt with this valuable source of commodity? Again use American Gold to get us out of the recession. The value of Gold is very high right now. It makes sense OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING.

This year the government will owe 1.9 trillion dollars. They do not have that much gold to cover that. They would have to buy it. And buying that much gold would drive up the price.
The US doesnt keep gold reserves anymore.
The US can print more money, issue bonds or borrow from future budgets (take a loan ie loss) to get more capital. It could also tax too but that is punitive.
